    Steering Committee Member

PixBio_Cathy_Highet.jpgCathy Highet is a founding member of the Portland Law Collective.  The Collective represents unions, progressive activists and individual plaintiffs.  Its members strive to apply in their own workplace the same values of egalitarianism, tolerance and sustainability that their clients are pursuing through the legal system.  Ms. Highet is also Treasurer of the Portland Chapter of the National Lawyers Guild.

Cathy focuses on legal work that reinforces her clients’ efforts to mobilize and empower their members.  Her work on behalf of unions has included a number of large-group wage and hour cases as well as cases before state and federal labor boards, courts, arbitrators, and administrative agencies.  Ms. Highet’s work on behalf of other progressive organizations ranges from representing the Oregon Working Families Party in election law matters to negotiating and appealing permit conditions for anti-war rallies.  Ms. Highet also represents low-wage, immigrant workers through the Northwest Workers Justice Project.

Cathy received her law degree from Boalt Hall at the University of California in 2003.  There she received honors including an Alumni Fellowship, the Victor Van Bourg Memorial Scholarship, and the Order of the Coif.  She received her Bachelor’s degree in Physics with Honors from Reed College in 1993.  Prior to attending law school, Ms. Highet organized on behalf of unions representing janitors, farm workers and retail workers.  Click here for a bit more information.
