Another Legal Victory Against the Walker's Anti-Public Sector Worker Law

Wisconsin Judge overturns almost the entirety of Scott Walker's union-busting law! Read the decision here.

Federal Judge Overturns Two Elements of Anti-Public Sector Worker Law

A federal judge struck down tow parts of Wisconsin Act 10, which was passed as a part of the "budget repair bill" in 2011:

    1. the part that eliminated payroll deduction for public sector worker union dues; and

    2. the part that required unions to win 51 percent support of all employees in units they were certified to represent during recertification votes, instead of the majority of employees who voted - under that requirement, all those who did not vote were to be counted as "no" votes.

The judge immediately blocked the majority support in recertification vote requirement. Payroll deduction for union dues will begin again on May 12th

ICLR Amicus Brief - Fighting for Workers' Right to Organize on the Job

The ICLR submitted an amicus brief to the NLRB in Roundy's, Inc. and Milwaukee Building and Construction Trades Council, AFL-CIO, advocating that the NLRB follow ILO Committee on Freedom of Association jurisprudence on the issue of non-employee access to workplaces. To the best of our knowledge, this is the only brief to have made these arguments to the NLRB.

The "Wisconsin Effect" Case Study: Pennsylvania

Wisconsin has changed the conversation at the doors of working people across the country.

As Working America canvass organizers have observed, "This awareness meant that people we talked to at the doors in many states were ready to have a deeper conversation about the issues and about the economy. Wisconsin had given the war on workers ‘stickiness’—it became something that caught people’s attention, stayed in their minds and was a reference point for further thinking…."

Nowhere is this clearer than in Pennsylvania. In just six weeks, 50 percent of working Pennsylvanians Working America reaches at the door organically bring up "education cuts" as soon as one of the organizers mentions the words "state budget." In addition, 25 to 30 percent of Pennsylvanians identify Gov. Corbett by name in association with these draconian measures.
